Classic Breakout 2 HD - This is the first game that takes full advantage of the advances in graphics and speed that the Open SDK allows for, and it's brilliant. The graphics are sublime, the sound great and the gameplay smooth as silk, and there are 10 levels of increasing challenge to be played. It's absolutely addictive - and it's free. This game has already been translated into 20 languages, with more to come.
When we look at the world of pure titles, then, we're talking about games that are faster and more precise than anything we've seen before on Symbian, with the possible exception of a handful of apps. It does mean that the experience of actually playing these games is also much better. The engine that underpins these games is called the Open SDK (Open Source Development Kit, for those outside the Nokia circles), developed by the Symbian Foundation, and it's what allows developers to build applications that run natively on both Symbian OS and the Series 60 S60. It allows you to build your own games from basic assets, then distribute them over the Internet.
Space Raiders - A great example of the use of the Open SDK for arcade style games - amazing, and a joy to play. You have to move your ship between asteroids, and destroy the enemy mothership, while avoiding the asteroids themselves. There are bonus levels and an online mode.
Among games, I'm particularly impressed by the limited edition digital copy of the highly entertaining and addictive Zen Bound. Like the UK's City Racer, it's a small digital download that requires nothing more than your phone to play. All I did was sync the game on to the N8's SD card, and the included osu! Touch allows you to control the game with your fingers, much as you'd do on a touchscreen with a mouse. The controls are ridiculously easy, and it makes you want to try and beat your friends' times as much as it makes you want to play. However, Osu! (it's not a downloadable app) is a true classic in its own right, and it's a good enough game without the Zen Bound digital - you can find it on the N8's main menu in the Ovi Store.
In terms of games, 'Street Fighter IV' became a firm favourite, as did 'Super Street Fighter IV' which uses touchscreen controls and all the original game's characters including the entire cast of the four previous 'Street Fighter' games. While it's hardly the best it's still a solid fighter with free downloadable content that can be added on at any time, and it's also compatible with the original iPhone version. For the rest, there's 'Angry Birds', 'Evoge' and its sequel, 'Evoge 2'.
When you're looking at a multi-band equalizer, it is first important to understand that audio processing is an anisotropic, and not isotropic, operation, meaning that the process is applied in a different manner depending on the direction a signal moves through the filter. iZotope's Neutron EQ module was designed to be an isotropic, or same-direction, filter, meaning that it operates in the same manner regardless of the direction a signal moves through it. So, for example, a band that is narrow near the upper frequency of a guitar signal will behave the same, regardless of whether that signal is moving toward or away from the speaker. 827ec27edc
