The MISRA C:2012 Compliance DTP Workflow is based on a model profile. The workflow and model profile were developed independently to create a standard, generic, workflow for producing compliance reports. The model profile was developed by Andreas Panagopoulos and Michel Jourdan, while the MISRA C:2012 Compliance DTP Workflow was developed by Melissa F. Cramer.
Since the implementation of MISRA-C:2012 in the workflow and the compliance reports is generic, it can be used in all of your projects if you feel like it. The decision to use this workflow has been taken. You can use it without worrying about what your tool or compiler is, because you don’t need to.
As MISRA-C:2012 was developed, it became obvious that it included too many rules. It was decided that there would be a way to focus on things that mattered the most, and that there would be a way to impose a limit on the number of rules that could be used in the event that a large number was required. There was a bit of a dilemma with this decision, because if we were too selective, this would adversely affect our ability to generate compliance reports for non-safety critical projects. In other words, we would be more interested in the safety critical part of the projects, and the non-safety critical part wouldn’t be served. But if we were too non-selective, and allowed many guidelines to be used, the compliance reports would not be useful for projects that were not safety critical.
Les Hatton of Programming Research, who was one of the primary contributors to the initial MISRA-C, is still a contributor to it today. He has been a member of the MISRA-C Working Group from the beginning, and he serves as one of the Program Committee Chairmen, as well as the technical committee chair of the C++ Advisory Group.
Olwen Morgn of Programming Research was not a primary contributor to the initial MISRA-C, but has since been a member of the working group since its inception and he is currently the technical committee chair of the C++ Advisory Group. In addition, he is a member of the C++ Standard Committee and he is working closely with the ISO C++ Standards Working Group on the C++ Programming Language.
